The Practice

Work with me

Psychodynamic and analytic psychotherapy for individuals, couples, and families. Developmental work — not symptom management, not coping-skills worksheets, not twelve sessions of structured anything.

What I'm actually doing in the room

I'm interested in why you're stuck — not just in making the stuck-ness quieter. Symptoms aren't the problem. They're the loyal, intelligent solutions your mind came up with to a problem you may not have language for yet. The work is finding the language.

My orientation is psychoanalytic and existential, with contemporary affective neuroscience underneath. In plain terms: I take your inner life seriously, I think your feelings are information, and I'm not going to hand you a worksheet. I'm going to sit with you in what's actually happening and help you make sense of it.

There is meaning and function in every thought, feeling, and behavior — even the ones that feel destructive or absurd. Especially those.

The same orientation extends to couples and families. The "patient" becomes the relationship itself — what's stuck between you, what's never been said out loud, what each person is carrying that the others may not know about. The work is helping the system find its own language for what it's already doing.

It's slower work. It's also the kind that tends to stick.

"I've walked up many mountains in this work. I've never walked up yours."
